About The Position
At Seagate, the Advanced Transducer Development group is a global R&D organization focused on developing new recording head technologies to advance areal density and support Seagate’s HDD product roadmap. The process team utilizes state-of-the-art wafer fabrication tools and cleanroom facilities to innovate and deliver leading-edge writers and read sensors. This role emphasizes proving the feasibility of new devices, processes, and materials to contribute to Seagate’s future market leadership. The position offers exposure to a broad range of cleanroom technologies, including deposition, etch, chemical mechanical polishing (CMP), and photolithography. The engineer will apply problem-solving techniques to optimize wafer flows, reduce cycle time and scrap, and investigate root causes of process failures. This role involves hands-on wafer inspection, troubleshooting, and resolution of process issues on the factory floor, requiring collaboration with experienced engineers and specialists.
Requirements
- Exposure to semiconductor processes such as lithography, etch, plating, film deposition or metrology.
- Hands-on experience with materials and device characterization techniques, such as SEM, AFM, optical microscopy, etc.
- Familiarity with coding or scripting for data analysis and automation.
- Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Available to work a 10-hour off-shift schedule. Shift hours are Monday - Thursday, 2:30 PM to 12:30 AM.
- Ability to work in a mix of clean room and laboratory environments.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across shifts with a diverse team of engineers and specialists.
- Honest and respectful team player, capable of working in strong partnership with a diverse global group of engineers and technicians.
- Well-organized multitasker, able to balance day-to-day wafer processing needs with longer-term development work.
- Self-motivated, intellectually curious, able to work independently and have a strong attention to detail.
- Quick learner who can adapt to fast-paced development programs.
- Eager to grow and develop professionally for long-term career advancement.
Responsibilities
- Support and maintain processes for our latest designs during off-shift hours.
- Gain exposure to a broad range of cleanroom technologies, with opportunities to develop expertise in areas such as deposition, etch, chemical mechanical polishing (CMP), photolithography, and other advanced integration processes.
- Apply problem-solving techniques to address operational issues, optimize wafer flows, and reduce cycle time and scrap.
- Collaborate with a team of experienced engineers and specialists from diverse technical backgrounds.
- Investigate root causes of process failures, coordinate experiments, and perform in-depth data analysis.
- Engage in hands-on wafer inspection, troubleshooting, and resolution of process issues with frequent presence on the factory floor.
