About The Position

Watershed is seeking an experienced sustainability professional to join its Sustainability Advisor team. This role involves accelerating the adoption of corporate sustainability programs by advising major companies like Walmart, BlackRock, Fedex, and General Motors. The position requires partnering with product and go-to-market teams to act as a thought leader and integrate sustainability intelligence into Watershed's products. The role is crucial in shaping sustainability strategies for companies that collectively represent over 1 gigaton of annual emissions, aiming to make sustainability initiatives that are both business-sensible and drive significant action. This role requires a strong understanding of climate change and corporate sustainability, with the opportunity to work on the front lines of climate action.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience.
  • At least 2 years at a consulting firm with demonstrated excellence in client-facing roles.
  • At least 4 years in sustainability (experience can overlap).
  • Clear thinking about complex problems and comfort using and speaking to data.
  • Systematic, detail-oriented, and ability to thrive in fast-paced environments.
  • Expertise in corporate decarbonization.
  • Familiarity with key climate frameworks such as GHGP, PCAF, SBTi, ISO.
  • Familiarity with key reporting frameworks such as CSRD, CCDAA, ASRS, TCFD, CDP.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present complex analyses and recommendations to C-suite audiences.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Passion for solving climate change and excitement to define the future of corporate sustainability at a high-growth startup.
  • Excellence in driving strategic initiatives in complex organizations.
  • Ability to influence decision-making while managing multiple internal and external stakeholders across different organizational levels.
  • Must be willing to work from an office 4 days per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep understanding of global supply chains, manufacturing processes, and/or what makes procurement functions excel.
  • Direct experience working within key sustainability-adjacent corporate functions (e.g., procurement).
  • Direct experience working on decarbonizing physical supply chains.
  • Previous experience working in SaaS climate tech.
  • An advanced degree in sustainability, climate science, environmental engineering, or related technical fields.
  • Fluency in multiple languages (English, Spanish, French, or German).

Responsibilities

  • Advise sustainability leaders at leading companies on advancing their sustainability programs.
  • Independently lead strategic engagements covering target-setting, decarbonization, environmental impact management, and voluntary and regulatory reporting.
  • Partner closely with customers to craft the business case for sustainability throughout their journey.
  • Build sustainability intelligence by staying ahead of emerging frameworks, regulations, and market developments.
  • Translate sustainability trends and regulatory changes into actionable guidance for internal teams and customers.
  • Help Watershed develop new products and services by exploring sustainability needs in emerging topics and industries.
  • Prototype how Watershed can bring value to customers.
  • Expand Watershed's impact by identifying opportunities and building solutions at the intersection of sustainability, advisory, and technology.
