Sushi Clerk
About The Position
The Sushi Clerk works in Hy-Vee’s Hy-Chi department, helping fill customer orders, prepare fresh products, and keep the department running smoothly. The role focuses on food safety, product freshness, and customer service in a fast-paced environment. The employee receives direction and support from store and department leadership, including the Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Food Service Director, Hy-Chi Department Manager, Assistant Hy-Chi Department Manager, and Service Managers. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and Food Safety Certification. Six months or more of similar or related experience is preferred. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Food Safety Certification.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Clear, friendly communication with customers and teammates.
- Ability to stay organized and keep pace in a busy department.

Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide helpful, friendly service.
- Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone; help customers locate or reach products and carry heavy purchases.
- Review daily orders and monitor product freshness, appearance, and supply levels.
- Prepare, finish, and replenish products, retrieving items from the cooler or freezer as needed.
- Follow sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and organized.
- Receive and put away products, label and date items accurately, and promptly remove trash.
- Anticipate daily product needs and follow or develop a production list.
- Order products and supplies as necessary.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Follow the company dress code, hygiene standards, and policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
