About The Position

Surveying And Mapping, LLC (SAM) is hiring a Survey Technician/Instrument Operator to support field surveys alongside a Crew Chief. The role collects accurate field data for boundary, topographic, and construction layout surveys, contributing to daily crew operations while building hands-on experience with survey equipment and project work. The position involves outdoor work throughout the year, with travel and overnight stays for assignments as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Comfort using technology and willingness to learn new equipment and software.
Attention to detail and ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with the crew.
Willingness to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions and environments.
Availability to travel and stay overnight for project assignments as needed.
Valid driver's license and ability to meet company MVR standards.
Must pass a background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

Support daily field surveys under the direction of a Crew Chief, communicating progress and helping resolve field challenges.
Set up and operate robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, levels, and terrestrial 3D laser scanners.
Use survey controllers and software to collect geospatial data and perform survey calculations.
Read and interpret maps, plans, and survey information to support accurate fieldwork.
Record clear, organized field notes and measurements with guidance from the Crew Chief.
Load, unload, organize, and care for survey equipment and supplies.
Help keep equipment, tools, and vehicles clean and ready for use.
Follow safe work practices and company procedures on every assignment.
