About The Position

The Survey Party Chief oversees land surveys and directs and supervises a survey crew in making accurate measurements and determining site layouts to support unit installation and other project disciplines. The role provides data about land and nearby features—including shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions—for engineering, construction, and other purposes. Duties include planning surveys, assessing terrain and potential construction sites, managing and training survey personnel, and coordinating survey findings with engineering, architectural, client, and other project teams. The position uses surveying systems, instruments, GPS, CAD, and related software to collect, verify, calculate, document, and interpret survey data. It also leads and supports site safety processes and is designated safety-sensitive. The work is performed in construction-site and office environments. Site conditions may include cramped or awkward workspaces, uneven terrain, extreme heat or cold, inclement weather, dust, bright or low lighting, distracting noise, and hazardous equipment. Physical duties include lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, moving, and walking long distances; repetitive hand movements; and potentially working above five feet and climbing or balancing on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. The role may involve working up to 12-hour shifts performing hard physical labor in varying conditions.
