About The Position

The Survey Field Technician supports Barge Design Solutions’ Geomatics team with field and office surveying activities that provide accurate data for engineering, transportation, environmental, and infrastructure projects. Working under the guidance of a Geomaticist or another technical professional, this entry-level role develops foundational surveying skills while contributing to data collection, field measurements, mapping, and project documentation. The position offers hands-on experience with modern surveying equipment, CAD, GIS, and data processing, and can provide a career path for those interested in geomatics, surveying, and engineering support.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Interest and ability to attend college to pursue a Geomatics degree is highly desirable.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience as a rod man or instrument man is preferred.
• Interest and ability to attend college to pursue a Geomatics degree is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Copy and scan field notes.
• Assist the field supervisor, such as a Geomaticist or Data Specialist, with the daily workload.
• Set up tripods and tribrachs over survey points.
• Cut and clear brush and trees along survey lines using designated cutting tools.
• Place survey stakes at designated points as instructed.
• Clean, carry, maintain, properly use, and safeguard field instruments, equipment, and tools.
• Inspect survey vehicles daily to ensure they have adequate equipment and materials for the day's operations.
• Keep survey vehicles, parking areas, and office storage areas neat and orderly.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Supervisor.
