As a Survey Crew Chief, you will lead field operations supporting pipeline maintenance, integrity, and construction projects on existing utility assets. This role is heavily focused on as-built surveying, construction support, and topographic data collection for natural gas pipeline projects. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently for extended periods, communicate effectively with stakeholders in the field, and deliver high-quality survey data with minimal oversight.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of surveying experience, preferably supporting pipeline, utility, or construction projects
  • Experience with pipeline as-built surveys, utility locating, construction staking, and topographic surveying
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, IFC drawing packages, and project specifications
  • Proficiency with robotic total stations, GNSS equipment, data collectors, and related survey technology; Trimble experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and basic data management; AutoCAD experience or willingness to learn is a plus
  • Ability to work independently, manage long-term projects with minimal oversight, and maintain detailed field documentation
  • Strong communication skills and experience working directly with inspectors, contractors, utility representatives, and clients
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel, including overnight and out-of-state assignments
  • Commitment to safety and ability to work outdoors in varying weather and field conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Trimble experience preferred
  • AutoCAD experience or willingness to learn is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily field operations for pipeline and utility-related survey projects, including as-built surveys, construction staking, topographic surveys, and boundary surveys
  • Perform pipeline as-built surveys for tie-ins, bores, potholes, mainline installations, and other maintenance and construction activities
  • Support construction projects through layout, staking, and verification of installed improvements
  • Conduct utility locating and coordinate with project stakeholders to identify existing underground infrastructure
  • Collect, process, and interpret survey data using GNSS, robotic total stations, and other survey technologies
  • Read and interpret construction plans, IFC drawing packages, civil plans, mechanical drawings, structural plans, and project specifications
  • Maintain accurate field notes, sketches, photographs, and documentation throughout all phases of field operations
  • Communicate daily with project managers, engineers, inspectors, contractors, and client representatives regarding project progress and field conditions
  • Interact professionally with gas company representatives, inspectors, landowners, and other stakeholders
  • Identify and resolve field issues while maintaining project schedules and quality standards
  • Prepare daily reports, time sheets, and required project documentation
  • Maintain survey vehicles, equipment, and inventory
  • Follow all company and client safety procedures, policies, and practices
  • Travel to project sites as required, including extended assignments when necessary
  • Support office staff with data processing and other project-related tasks as needed
