About The Position

BPA, a passionate engineering firm shaping tomorrow's buildings and infrastructure, is seeking a Structural Engineer to oversee site supervision, technical control, and coordination for structural engineering projects (institutional, commercial, industrial, multi-residential). The role involves ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, standards, and contractual requirements specific to Quebec.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in structures, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in consulting engineering or on construction sites, ideally in reinforced concrete and steel structures.
  • Proficiency in Quebec structural plans and specifications (NBC, applicable CSA/ACI/CISC standards).
  • Ability to read and interpret concrete structure and steel framing plans.
  • Demonstrated experience in building structure site supervision (several large-scale projects is an asset).
  • Valid driver's license and inter-site mobility.
  • ASP card.

Responsibilities

  • Technical site supervision: Verify work compliance with applicable plans and specifications.
  • Perform rebar inspections before concrete pouring.
  • Verify formwork, aggregates, anchors, and rebar installation according to structural details.
  • Attend concrete pours, site tests, and track non-conformities and required corrections.
  • Visual inspection of steel structures, review laboratory inspection reports, and follow up with the contractor if necessary.
  • Review shop drawings: Analyze and validate shop drawings from suppliers and contractors.
  • Ensure drawings comply with engineering plans, technical specifications, and project construction tolerances.
  • Write technical comments and coordinate modifications with project teams and subcontractors.
  • Coordination and negotiation with contractors: Act as the firm's technical representative with contractors and suppliers on site.
  • Participate in site meetings and propose viable constructive technical solutions.
  • Produce change requests and negotiate compensation requests.
  • Documentation and communication: Write detailed inspection reports for each site visit.
  • Ensure consistent communication with project managers, design engineers, contractors, and clients.
