About The Position

University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College is seeking a Surgical Technology Faculty member. This is a full-time, regular, non-tenure track faculty position within the Surgical Technology department. The faculty member will be responsible for delivering approved curriculum, monitoring student progress, and providing guidance and feedback. They will also maintain communication with the Program Director and Operating Room personnel, and ensure program compliance. The role requires a strong commitment to patient and student safety, and fostering a positive learning environment. The faculty member will also stay current with industry knowledge and contribute to program improvement.

Requirements

Graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
Current credential in surgical technology (CST).
Must be capable of teaching both the clinical and didactic aspects of the program.
Must also meet all regulatory and corporate qualifications.
Must have the knowledge and ability to judge student competence.
Requires strong attention to details and a positive professional attitude.
Must have a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a Surgical Technologist within the past five years.
Must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

Post-secondary education experience desired.
Teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Deliver approved curriculum
Monitor each student's progress throughout the course of the day
Make himself/herself available for students' questions and learning needs
Exhibit professional behavior and serve as a role model for students
Promote patient and student safety
Create a positive and supportive learning environment, including being an advocate for the student's status as a learner
Make systematic observations and objective judgments about student performance
Give each student timely feedback about his/her performance, providing suggestions for improvement
Meet regularly with the Program Director to maintain productive two-way communication between the program and Operating Room personnel
Discuss student evaluation with each student's preceptor(s)
At the end of each rotation, prepare (or supervise the preparation of) a Clinical Evaluation Form, documenting the progress of each student
At the end of each rotation, discuss the Clinical Evaluation Form with each student, attempting to provide guidance for future performance
Provide feedback to the program about current department/hospital policies or changes in practice in the field and make suggestions for program modifications or improvement
Monitor and assure program compliance
Be available in person, by phone, or other methods of communication to respond to students in a timely manner as problems arise
Maintain current level of knowledge through participation in educational and in-service programs, workshops, and professional affiliations
Maintain office hours
Perform other duties as assigned
