Surgical Technology Faculty
About The Position
The University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College is seeking a Surgical Technology Faculty member. This is a regular, non-tenure track faculty position. The faculty member will be responsible for delivering approved curriculum, monitoring student progress, and providing support for student learning needs. The role requires exhibiting professional behavior, promoting patient and student safety, and creating a positive learning environment. The faculty member will make systematic observations and provide objective judgments about student performance, offering timely feedback and suggestions for improvement. Regular communication with the Program Director and discussion of student evaluations with preceptors are expected. The faculty member will also provide feedback on department/hospital policies and suggest program modifications. Monitoring program compliance and maintaining current knowledge through professional development are key aspects of the role. The faculty member will maintain office hours and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
- Current credential in surgical technology (CST).
- Must be capable of teaching both the clinical and didactic aspects of the program.
- Must also meet all regulatory and corporate qualifications.
- Must have the knowledge and ability to judge student competence.
- Requires strong attention to details and a positive professional attitude.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a Surgical Technologist within the past five years.
- Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

- Post-secondary education experience desired.
- Teaching experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Deliver approved curriculum
- Monitors each student's progress throughout the course of the day
- Makes himself/herself available for students' questions and learning needs
- Exhibits professional behavior and serves as a role model for students
- Promotes patient and student safety
- Creates a positive and supportive learning environment, including being an advocate for the student's status as a learner
- Makes systematic observations and objective judgments about student performance
- Gives each student timely feedback about his/her performance, providing suggestions for improvement
- Meets regularly with the Program Director to maintain productive two-way communication between the program and Operating Room personnel
- Discusses student evaluation with each student's preceptor(s)
- At the end of each rotation, prepares (or supervises the preparation of) a Clinical Evaluation Form, documenting the progress of each student
- At the end of each rotation, discusses the Clinical Evaluation Form with each student, attempting to provide guidance for future performance
- Provides feedback to the program about current department/hospital policies or changes in practice in the field and makes suggestions for program modifications or improvement
- Monitors and assures program compliance
- Be available in person, by phone, or other methods of communication to respond to students in a timely manner as problems arise
- Maintains current level of knowledge through participation in educational and in-service programs, workshops, and professional affiliations
- Maintains office hours
- Performs other duties as assigned
