About The Position

Baystate Health, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and safety, is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join our Daly Operating Room team in Springfield, MA. This unit has a highly experienced team that supports 24 new state of the art inpatient/outpatient operating rooms and 8 heart and vascular and neurology interventional procedure rooms, performing surgical procedures to restore and enhance the lives of patients. This unit operates 24/7 with coverage and support expectations of weekends and off-shift rotations at least quarterly. Our teams are committed to compassion, continuous improvement, and collaboration. As a Surgical Technologist in our OR, you will play a vital role in ensuring safe and effective surgical procedures. You’ll work under the direction of the Unit Manager, Clinical Operations Coordinator, and RN Service Leads, while directly supporting surgeons and physicians in complex, high-acuity procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate of Science in Surgical Technology or completion of a CAAHEP-accredited program
  • AST Certification
  • CPR – American Heart Association BLS Certification required if no surgical facility experience prior to July 1, 2013
  • Minimum 2 years of surgical tech experience
  • 1 year of employment at Baystate or 2 years of comparable external experience
  • Completion of orientation competencies
  • Minimum 4 years of surgical tech experience
  • 1 year of employment at Baystate Health
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the sterile field is maintained and proper aseptic technique is applied
  • Anticipate the surgeon’s needs during surgical procedures
  • Assist in minimally invasive, open surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures
  • Understand human anatomy, surgical instrumentation, and procedural steps across multiple specialties
  • Maintain and demonstrate technical proficiency and knowledge aligned with assigned roles
  • Uphold Baystate's safety, quality, and infection control standards
  • Adapt to the needs of the surgical team in a fast-paced environment
