About The Position

At Avera Heart Hospital, this position assists professional staff in providing care for operative patients before, during, and after surgery. The role requires thorough surgical knowledge and expertise to ensure proper instrumentation and supplies are available on the surgical field and/or in the operating room where the procedure will be performed.

The Surgical Technologist helps the sterile operative team, performs scrub and circulating duties in the operating room, carries out routine and specialized housekeeping activities, and applies principles of asepsis, infection control, and medical ethics. The position also trains newly assigned personnel and maintains patient safety and confidentiality at all times. Under the direction of the Laboratory, the position is responsible for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, ten-hour shifts from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with on-call, weekend, and holiday rotation.

Requirements

• Graduation from a Surgical Technologist program at an accredited school of allied health services is required.

Nice To Haves

• Three years of continuous operating-room experience preferred.
• Current Surgical Technologist certification preferred.
• Current BLS certification preferred.
