About The Position

Shriners Children's is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to join their team. This is a PRN position, non-exempt and benefits eligible. Shriners Children's is a premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate and pediatric subspecialties medical center. Requirements

  • Current Surgical Technologist certification required
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) recognized by American Heart Association required

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of Orthopedic Surgery
  • Minimum six (6) months experience in an orthopedic surgical area preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures.
  • Assist in preparation of surgical services to ensure suite setup is appropriate.
  • Create and maintain a sterile field, providing equipment and supplies.
  • Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts.
  • Provide visualization of the operative site.
  • Independently pull cases utilizing preference sheets and OR special equipment lists.
  • Update and review lists, making changes as necessary.
  • Review cases and equipment prior to the start of the case.
  • Ensure scrubbed in and has equipment prior to patient arriving into the OR suite.
  • Determine and document efficacy of equipment.
  • Record accurate descriptions of operations, sterilization, and use of equipment.
  • Attend in-service on new equipment and complete competency evaluations.
  • Operate and maintain equipment used within the department.
  • Apply principles of sterile technique.
  • Demonstrate general knowledge of anatomy and surgical procedures, with an emphasis on specific procedures performed at the institution.
  • Understand hospital policies and procedures, with an emphasis on operating room policies and procedures.
  • Understand surgical principles of decontamination and sterilization processes, and operation of flash and steam autoclaves and washer decontamination.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Write simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
  • Multitask and utilize constructive consideration when working with families, patients, coworkers, and physicians.
  • Encourage and enforce a safe environment for patients and coworkers.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
