The Surgical Technologist assists in preparing the operating room and performing assigned support duties during operative procedures. The incumbent scrubs in the role of second or third assistant when directed. This role involves checking supplies, instrumentation, and equipment; providing and maintaining a sterile field; assisting with patient preparation and positioning; participating in post-operative cleanup and restocking; scrubbing and assisting circulators under RN supervision; maintaining aseptic technique; observing procedure progress and anticipating patient needs; preparing sterile dressings and assisting with their application; preparing operative specimens for analysis; and participating in resuscitation procedures. The Surgical Technologist must demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-specific patient care, work effectively with staff, communicate surgeon's preferences, and adhere to organizational policies and procedures. They are also responsible for maintaining department records, completing required training, assisting with equipment maintenance and cost-effective supply utilization, and reporting equipment malfunctions. Additionally, they may assist in orienting new staff and students and perform other assigned duties.
