About The Position

The Surgical Technologist maintains sterile conditions, anticipates the needs of the surgical team, and ensures that all instruments and supplies are available and properly handled. This position is the 2nd level of Surgical Technologist career ladder. The Surgical Technologist provides safe, efficient, age-specific nursing care to patients/families using nursing interventions to assist them in attaining, maintaining, regaining, and sustaining optimal health status. This role functions in a primary scrub position and takes responsibility for precepting others in the scrub role. The technologist assists with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures and serves as a resource in an area of expertise. They assure appropriate instruments/supplies are present and in proper working condition, and demonstrate the ability to operate service-specific equipment. The technologist provides labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field and adheres to patient safety expectations. They support the operative team, including following patient care hand-off protocols, or standards, protocols, and policies in collaboration with a RN/ACN. The role actively participates in the quality improvement process and is involved in learning, self-improvement, and performs as a knowledge expert and resource person for the service line. Additional responsibilities include performing other duties as assigned, complying with all policies and standards, and abiding by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for patients.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program (Required)
  • Expert knowledge of asepsis, instrumentation, suture and surgical procedures in a defined specialty. (Required)
  • Meets Surgical Technologist II promotional/maintenance requirements. (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required within 90 Days)
  • Surgical Technologist Certification (CST or CORST) (Required Upon Hire)

Responsibilities
