About The Position

Responsible for assisting with the organ procurement procedure and the maintenance of organ procurement surgical equipment and operating rooms. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS DONOR COORDINATION AND ORGAN RECOVERY Maintains an on-call schedule of approximately fifteen 24-hour call days per month (50% call). Strong working knowledge of operating room etiquette and sterile technique. Facilitates the safe and effective organ procurement procedure, ensuring the operating room environment is safe and that equipment functions properly. Functions in the first scrub role handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the organ procurement procedure, anticipates needs of the surgeon, and maintains the sterile field. Assists with organ procurement procedures when Surgical Organ Recovery Specialists are utilized. Assists with organ recovery when MTN local transplant programs recover an organ outside the MTN donor service area. Ability to coordinate the organ recovery process, make appropriate decisions and effectively communicate with appropriate parties. Ability to recognize and identify normal anatomy. Ability to flush, package and label all organs according to policies and procedures. Basic knowledge of federal, state and industry laws/regulations related to organ recovery including OPTN, CMS, and OSHA. Assists with management of major equipment needed for organ procurement, such kidney perfusion pumps, cautery, suction machines, slush machines, etc. Knowledge of and assists the Recovery Suite Compliance Coordinator with instrument processing and sterilization procedures. Assists with supply management and stocking of organ operating room supplies. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal MTN staff, hospital staff, transplant center partners, and others involved in the donation process. Serves as resource to recovery surgeons on SOPs and recovery protocols. Completion of QA and QI processes as required by MTN Policies and Procedures. Maintenance of donation information in MTN database and UNET.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one year experience in a clinical environment required
  • OR process knowledge and excellent knowledge of sterilization techniques
  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and participate in 24-hour call
  • Must be available on non-call days during normal business hours
  • Required to work and remain standing for extended periods of time with few breaks
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy
  • Must have reliable personal automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines
  • Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air and be physically present onsite at all hospitals within MTN’s Donation Service Area (DSA)

  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and transfer short distances
  • Possess good fine and gross motor dexterity to support the frequent handling and use of procurement instruments and devices
  • Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information to donor families, hospital staff and transplant/procurement personnel in person or by phone
  • OSHA Category I – Exposed regularly to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties
  • Bloodborne pathogens protection is required

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Surgical Technician (CST) preferred
  • Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) highly preferred
  • Home internet and wireless phone access may be required
