About The Position

Come join the Nursing Support team at Saint Mary's Hospital, part of Trinity Health Of New England! The Nursing Support (NS) colleague (uncertified, certified, unlicensed, or licensed) provides safe, quality health care services & / or assistance to patients under the supervision & direction of a registered nurse or other designated health care professional in accordance with level of experience, education, policies & procedures. Note: “patients” refers to patients, clients, residents, participants, customers.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Operating Room Technology
  • Successful completion of national exam for certification by NBSTSA.
  • Registry Eligible must pass the certification exam within 18 months from date of hire.
  • BLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and sets up the operating room , including equipment, instruments, sterile table, and required supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Ensures sterility and aseptic technique throughout the case , including checking equipment and packages, maintaining sterile fields, and addressing any breaks in technique.
  • Assists with patient preparation , including positioning, bed/fracture table setup, and draping.
  • Manages intraoperative responsibilities , including maintaining accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and needles, and properly handling specimens.
  • Provides procedural support and communication , including responding to emergencies (e.g., C-sections), operating specialty equipment, and giving report to relief staff.
