About The Position

The Surgical Technologist First Assistant helps ensure surgical services are prepared and supports the surgical team in the operating field by passing instruments and supplies. The role functions as a first assistant during surgical incision, excision, and repair of pathology, and throughout the perioperative period for procedures for which privileges have been granted. The position also performs other duties as assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program, completion of a military training program for surgical technologists, or equivalent experience.
• Must have completed an accredited First Assistant program or a Legacy-offered course in First Assisting within 12 months of hire.
• American Heart Association-approved BLS certification.
• For new hires after July 1, 2016 who do not meet the previous-experience provision noted in the Education section: current Surgical Technologist certification, or certification as a Surgical Technologist within 12 months of graduation from a Surgical Technologist program.
• As of January 1, 2017, candidates may substitute professional experience for the formal Surgical Technologist training program requirement if they have worked 2 out of the last 3 years as a Surgical Technologist.

Nice To Haves

• One year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred.
