About The Position

Provides direct assistance to physicians in procedural areas, using invasive and non-invasive techniques. The role requires performing duties in accordance with state practice standards and professional guidelines. Specific duties may vary by department, and related duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or higher required upon hire.
• One of the following certifications is required upon hire: Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) through the National Commission on Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA); CSA through the National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA); or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as a Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment.
• Requires critical-thinking skills and decisive judgment.
• Must be able to work under minimal supervision, in a stressful environment, and take appropriate action.

Nice To Haves

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, as determined by the organization, is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide visualization of the operative site through tissue and material manipulation, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
• Use appropriate techniques to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
• Assist with body plane closure, wound dressing application, and securing drainage systems.
• Assist with patient positioning, using stabilizing equipment when necessary while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
• Perform duties in accordance with applicable state practice standards and professional guidelines.
• Support the organization’s mission, vision, core commitments, and business interests; follow policies and procedures and act consistently with a culture of compliance, safety, and high reliability.
