About The Position

The Surgical Technologist Certified functions under the direction of a registered professional nurse, assisting the healthcare team in providing safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care. This role involves knowledge, skill, and the ability to perform duties in moderate to high acuity surgical cases, with the expectation of occasionally working above this level as cases require.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate proficiency in the scope of anatomy, equipment, and instrumentation relevant to surgical cases.
Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other members of the healthcare team to ensure a smooth workflow.
Exhibit an acquisition of additional surgical skills for progressively more complex cases.
Implement an efficient and organized surgical plan for assigned cases.
Initiate discussions about the surgical plan with other healthcare team members.
Troubleshoot instruments and equipment as necessary.
Anticipate and gather additional supplies or equipment required for specific procedures.
Mentor, precept, or train peers in various modalities as needed.
Participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance surgical practices.
Prepare the operative suite and surgical field to ensure a safe environment, maintaining vigilance over sterile field practices and patient safety.
Gather required instruments and supplies and provide surgical assistance as needed (not to be confused with the role of a certified surgical first assistant).
Assist with inventory management, ordering, and stocking in operative and perioperative areas.
Ensure compliance with relevant standards, such as those set by the Joint Commission, consistently.
Be available for call or late coverage as required by the facility.
