About The Position

Allina Health is hiring a Surgical Technologist Apprentice for a paid, full-time training program that prepares apprentices for a career as a surgical technologist and successful completion of the NCCT Surgical Technologist Certification exam. The approximately eight-month program has two phases: about 14 weeks of training followed by about five months of orientation. Training includes online coursework, classroom lectures, hands-on skills labs, exams, in-services, learning activities, educator check-ins, and operating-room clinicals under the direct supervision of a preceptor. Classroom training takes place at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, and clinical training takes place at the hiring site. Training shifts are 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; after training, the schedule may include day and evening shifts. The position is 1.0 FTE, or 80 hours per two-week pay period, with occasional weekends. Apprentices are paid $22.00 per hour until they pass the NCCT certification exam. After certification, they transition into a Surgical Technologist role at their hired site, with pay adjusted to a new-graduate wage.
