About The Position

Shriners Children’s is seeking a full-time Surgical Technologist to join its Portland, Oregon team. The role provides quality, individualized patient care using scientific knowledge, surgical technologist education, and interpersonal skills. Care is provided primarily during the intraoperative phase and also includes the preoperative and postoperative phases of the patient’s surgical experience.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Surgical Technology.
• One year of Operating Room scrub experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS).

Nice To Haves

• Surgical Technologist Certification (CST).

Responsibilities

• Use correct aseptic technique to create and maintain a sterile field, and apply infection-control principles in the Operating Room.
• Plan and direct workflow during surgical procedures.
• Anticipate the sequence of intraoperative events to meet surgeon and patient needs.
• Perform the first-scrub role on all surgical procedures.
• Know the Code Cart’s location and contents, including appropriate use of its contents and equipment.
• Understand the Surgical Tech role and responsibilities during a Code 99.
• Promote patient safety by performing sponge and sharps counts according to policy; following surgical site marking and tourniquet-use policies; and properly using the electrosurgical unit, power tools, and light sources.
