About The Position

The Surgical Tech supports the Labor and Delivery department at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The role prepares the operating suite by setting up sterile drapes, solutions, instruments, and supplies; provides intraoperative support by anticipating and handing requested items to the surgeon; and assists with safely preparing, transporting, positioning, and draping patients. The Surgical Tech maintains an organized instrument field and tracks item counts to help prevent retained objects.

Requirements

• Obtain BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Hold a Surgical Tech credential from NBSTSA or NCCT before hire or job transfer. Alternatively, meet the specified Tennessee statutory experience or training criteria for non-certified applicants.
• Meet one of the education/experience pathways: high school diploma equivalency with two years of cumulative experience, an associate or technical degree, or four years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

• Set up the operating suite with sterile drapes, solutions, and necessary sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Anticipate and efficiently hand requested instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
• Assist with the safe preparation, transportation, positioning, and draping of patients to ensure comfort and safety.
• Maintain an organized instrument field and track item counts to prevent retained objects.
