The Surgical Technologist functions as an integral member of the surgical team, possessing expertise in sterile technique, human anatomy, and surgical procedures. They independently manage surgical instruments and supplies during operations and ensure patient safety throughout all phases of a procedure. Requirements

  • Experience scrubbing in multiple specialties
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 60 days of hire
  • CST (Certified Surgical Tech) OR NCCT-TS-C (Tech in Surgery-Certified)
  • Will consider a non-certified Surgical Tech if experienced

Responsibilities

  • Independently maintains a sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
  • Anticipates surgeon needs and responds proactively.
  • Sets up surgical supplies, instruments, and solutions for diverse procedures.
  • Performs instrument, sponge, and sharp counts with circulator.
  • Drapes patients and prepares sterile sites.
  • Passes instruments efficiently during surgery.
  • Manages surgical specimens and labeling.
  • Prepares sterile dressings and assists with wound care.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Leads or assists in terminal OR cleaning and prepping for next case.
  • May act as a mentor to junior staff or students.
  • May retrieve and transport medications (no preparation or administration).
