About The Position

The Surgical Tech II assists with nursing care and supports surgeons during operative and invasive procedures. The role prepares the operating suite, monitors levels of surgical instruments and supplies, and cleans and sterilizes instruments. The position also participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities and performs routine and delegated duties in accordance with A.O.R.N. Standards.

Requirements

High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
Completion of an accredited OR Tech program, either college-affiliated or facility-trained.
BLS certification.
Central Registry.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Basic computer skills.
Demonstrated effective organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Prepare the room promptly with anticipated instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for each surgical procedure.
Demonstrate competence in caring for and accurately handling specimens.
Assist with positioning, prepping, and draping patients for surgical procedures.
Perform services requiring technical or manual skills under the direction of a Circulating RN.
Clean and prepare rooms between procedures and after the last case; restock supplies as needed and organize end-of-case clean-up.
Follow written procedures for steam sterilization and understand responsibilities for chemical and biological monitoring.
Monitor par levels of surgical instruments and supplies.
Clean and sterilize surgical instruments.
Make decisions reflecting knowledge of facts and good judgment within the Operating Room Technician’s scope of practice.
Participate in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities.
