About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technician supports surgical procedures by preparing and organizing equipment, instruments, supplies, and sterile fields according to patient needs and surgeon preference. The role requires operating room experience and includes maintaining and troubleshooting equipment, following aseptic practices and surgical-count procedures, keeping surgical suites clean and stocked, and assisting with OR turnover and sterile-supply preparation. The technician works with patients, families, colleagues, and other clients from diverse backgrounds, contributes to quality improvement, and may take on additional assignments as needed. Occasional overtime and the ability to manage stress and time demands are required.

Requirements

Operating room experience required.
Current BLS required.
Certification as a surgical technician or proof of equivalent training.
Must provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well with other employees.
Ability to organize equipment, instruments, and supplies; manage time and adhere to the work schedule; and handle stress while prioritizing multiple tasks.
Above-average organizational skills.
Working knowledge and experience in a hospital, operating room, or ambulatory surgery center.
Ability to anticipate physician needs and have equipment, instruments, and supplies readily available for procedures.
Ability to meet time demands; occasional overtime is required.

Nice To Haves

Two years of hospital main operating room experience desired.
Ability to scrub all types of cases preferred.

Responsibilities

Organize and select equipment, instruments, and supplies for surgical cases based on patient needs and physician preference.
Anticipate surgeons’ equipment and supply needs and ensure equipment is functioning before use.
Troubleshoot equipment problems, report malfunctions, follow applicable repair protocols, and remove malfunctioning equipment from use.
Operate mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment according to manufacturer instructions.
Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are available.
Maintain clean, tidy, and properly stocked surgical suites, free of soiled equipment and supplies.
Follow established surgical-count policies and procedures and initiate corrective action when counts are incorrect.
Create and maintain a sterile field; apply aseptic practices and respond appropriately to breaks in technique.
Wear appropriate attire in restricted areas and adhere to recommended traffic patterns.
Handle instrumentation safely and follow sterile-processing standards and practices.
Assist with inventory management, OR turnover, and sterile-supply preparation, including opening supplies and pulling cases.
Communicate respectfully and effectively with patients, families, coworkers, and other internal and external clients, using translation services when needed.
Participate in quality improvement and support initiatives to improve individual and organizational performance.
Maintain competency, take initiative in professional development and continuing education, and accept additional assignments as needed.
