About The Position

The Surgical Services Support Technician safely transports patients to and from the operating room (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and other patient areas. The role supports surgical and anesthesia teams by organizing and restocking equipment and supplies, cleaning surgical suites, assisting with room turnover, maintaining sterile technique, and transporting blood products and specimens in accordance with verification and safety policies. The technician works closely with the surgical team, responds to changing needs, may assist during code situations, and is expected to promote the health organization’s mission, vision, and values. Expanded duties may include scrubbing into procedures and assisting with holding extremities, retractors, cameras, suction, or organs. Caregivers in this role receive training in Basic Aseptic Technique. The position is full-time at 36 hours per week. The schedule is determined after orientation and involves Monday through Friday with variable start times and/or days, as well as on-call requirements.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers, or completion within three months of employment.
Pass the Basic Aseptic Technique class within 90 days of hire or transfer into the role.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to fulfill on-call and weekend shift requirements and provide emergency staffing support as needed.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Prior experience or education in a health-related field or public service setting.

Responsibilities

Safely transport patients to and from the OR holding area, PACU, or patient rooms, using proper handling techniques and assisting with lifting, positioning, and transfers as needed.
Consult with the anesthesiologist and registered nurse to determine equipment, setup, and supply needs before procedures; learn to anticipate requirements and prepare rooms proactively.
Process post-surgical case carts by discarding sharps safely, emptying suction canisters, redistributing unused supplies, and sending carts to Sterile Processing for reprocessing.
Set up fluid warmers, invasive lines, and sterile supplies for anesthesia procedures when assigned.
Turn over operating rooms promptly by cleaning surfaces, removing trash and soiled linen, mopping beneath the OR bed, and preparing the room for the next case.
Transport blood products and specimens among the blood bank, OR, SDS, PACU, and laboratory or pathology departments while following verification and safety protocols.
Stock masks, surgical attire, dietary and storeroom supplies, and other supplies as directed.
Perform additional facility support duties, which may include logging warmer temperatures, checking eyewash stations, and maintaining the utility room.
Maintain appropriate traffic patterns and follow sanitation protocols for surgical and anesthesia instruments and equipment.
When trained and assigned, scrub, gown, and glove independently and support the surgeon as directed within the scope of practice for support personnel.
Respond to code situations and assist as required.
Fulfill on-call and weekend shift requirements and provide emergency staffing support as needed.
