About The Position

The Surgical Services Assistant plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and efficient operating room environment. This position involves preparing and cleaning surgical equipment and rooms, ensuring all necessary tools are available and in good working order, and assisting with room turnover between cases. The assistant is expected to communicate effectively with the nursing staff, adhere to hospital policies and procedures, and contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment. This role requires a high level of organization, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS certification required within three (3) months of hire or transfer.

  • Occasionally position objects weighing up to 100lbs.
  • Must be able to communicate and exchange information in a way others will understand.
  • Must be able to recognize details such as color and depth within a few feet of the observer.
  • Frequently operates computers, machinery, and other healthcare equipment.
  • Constantly positions self to complete essential functions.
  • May be required to wear N95s or PAPRs throughout the shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience within a surgical setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining a healthy, clean, and safe environment for staff and patients.
  • Gather, move, assemble, disassemble, and clean operating room equipment, tables, specialty equipment, and positioning devices.
  • Assure that needed equipment is available and in good working order prior to use.
  • Assist in setup and teardown of the operating rooms before and after cases.
  • Participate in timely and efficient operating room turnover.
  • Clean and disinfect operating room and equipment.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-services as requested.
  • Participate in educational opportunities as they arise.
  • Communicate all pertinent information, including problems, concerns, or ideas, to the assigned nurse, utilizing proper reporting lines, in a timely and effective manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
