About The Position

Derick Dermatology is seeking a Surgical Medical Assistant to provide patient care under the direction of a surgical provider. The role supports procedures such as Mohs surgery and excisions and includes patient intake, procedure setup, surgical assistance, and administrative duties. The employee will be assigned primarily to surgical shifts; general dermatology shifts may be offered when surgical shifts are unavailable. Flexibility and travel to other surgical locations are required when needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Friendly, polite, and professional demeanor.
Clear communication skills.
Proficiency with an electronic medical records (EMR) system; Nextech preferred.
General dermatology medical assistant experience.
Flexibility and willingness to travel to other surgical locations when needed.

Nice To Haves

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Ability to multitask and manage time wisely.

Responsibilities

Room patients, verify patient information, interview patients, record medical histories, and confirm the purpose of visits.
Collect and process blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens in compliance with CLIA regulations.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, aftercare, and providers’ instructions to patients.
Clean and sterilize medical instruments and assemble surgical trays using sterile technique.
Document patient visits and record appropriate charges for the billing department.
Conduct follow-up calls with patients after surgical procedures.
Assist providers during examinations and treatments by handing them instruments or materials, giving injections, removing sutures, and performing phlebotomy.
Clean examination rooms and other work areas and restock inventory as needed.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
