Requirements

  • A college graduate or other individual interested in exploring opportunities in an in-office surgical setting.
  • Have a passion for taking care of people.
  • Ability to be a team player in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a willingness to travel to various surgical centers in Maryland.
  • Will train motivated and hard-working candidates.
  • No experience is necessary, although it will be viewed favorably.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to the exam/procedure room and assist as needed with walking.
  • Collect patient information/history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Prepare paperwork for the patient’s current visit and ensure complete and accurate documentation within the patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Complete pre-operative intake via a one-on-one interview with the patient, explain surgical procedures, and answer any questions within your scope.
  • Prepare procedure rooms and surgical trays with all supplies needed for procedures.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures in adherence to HIPAA regulations.
  • Drape and disinfect the surgical site, administer an injection of local anesthesia, and use a handheld cautery device to achieve hemostasis.
  • Assist the physician during all procedures (passing instruments, blotting, cutting sutures, etc.).
  • Bandage surgical sites, prepare proper discharge paperwork, review wound care instructions with patients, and answer any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization in an autoclave.
  • Collect and accurately process specimens.
  • Prepare pathology and lab specimens and route them to the correct lab as required by the patient’s insurance.
  • Maintain an accurate pathology log.
  • Remove sutures.
  • Notify patients of pathology and lab results.
  • Respond to patient questions in the office and on the phone as instructed.
  • Schedule or reschedule appointments with providers and specialists as necessary.
  • Send appropriate records as necessary.
  • Maintain medication samples, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
  • Maintain infection control.
  • Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms and keep supply cabinets well stocked.
  • Document all medical instructions given to patients.
  • Travel required to various offices including Annapolis, MD; Glen Burnie, MD; Prince Frederick, MD; Berlin, MD (no more than 1x per month); Greenbelt, MD; Westminster, MD; Havre de Grace, MD; and Hagerstown, MD.
  • Perform other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.
