Requirements

  • College graduate or individual interested in exploring opportunities in an in-office surgical setting.
  • Passion for taking care of people.
  • Ability to be a team player in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to travel to various surgical centers in Maryland.
  • Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods (i.e., an hour at a time).
  • Must be able to use a step stool.

  • Experience in a medical or surgical setting is viewed favorably, but no experience is necessary as training will be provided for motivated and hard-working candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to the exam/procedure room and assist with walking as needed.
  • Collect patient information/history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Prepare paperwork for the patient’s current visit and ensure complete and accurate documentation within the patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Complete pre-operative intake via a one-on-one interview with the patient, explain surgical procedures, and answer any questions within your scope.
  • Prepare procedure rooms and surgical trays with all supplies needed for procedures.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures in adherence to HIPAA regulations.
  • Drape and disinfect the surgical site, administer an injection of local anesthesia, and use a handheld cautery device to achieve hemostasis.
  • Assist the physician during all procedures (passing instruments, blotting, cutting sutures, etc).
  • Bandage surgical sites, prepare proper discharge paperwork, review wound care instructions with patients, and answer any questions or concerns.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization in an autoclave.
  • Collect and accurately process specimens.
  • Prepare pathology and lab specimens, route to the correct lab as required by patient’s insurance, and maintain an accurate pathology log.
  • Remove sutures.
  • Notify patients of pathology and lab results.
  • Respond to patient questions in the office and on the phone as instructed.
  • Schedule or re-schedule appointments with providers and specialists as necessary, and send appropriate records.
  • Maintain medication samples, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
  • Maintain infection control and cleanliness of exam rooms, and keep supply cabinets well stocked.
  • Document all medical instructions given to patients.
  • Travel required to various surgical centers in Maryland including Annapolis, Glen Burnie, Prince Frederick, Berlin (no more than 1x per month), Greenbelt, Westminster, Havre de Grace, and Hagerstown.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
