About The Position

The Surgical Equipment Specialist supports the safe and effective operation of medical video, endoscopic, microscope, laser, and other specialized technology equipment in the surgical environment. The role troubleshoots equipment malfunctions, coordinates repairs and equipment changes, and serves as a laser resource and a liaison to Sterile Processing. The position may require work at any facility and includes a Friday-through-Sunday schedule, 36 hours per week.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of appropriate education in a field relevant to the service.
• Prior knowledge of the surgical working environment, including surgical sterile fields.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment.
• Ability to work with electrical circuits, handle delicate and expensive equipment, and read and comprehend technical equipment, operating, and repair manuals.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical staff, students, and physicians.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper operation of medical video equipment, endoscopic equipment and systems, microscopes, and specialized technology equipment.
• Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, communicate unresolved issues to Leadership, and follow up to ensure timely repairs.
• Serve as the department laser resource, ensuring proper laser operation and implementation of laser safety policies.
• Act as a liaison and resource for the Sterile Processing Department on appropriate utilization of endoscopic telescope equipment.
• Coordinate implementation of new equipment, equipment modifications, and changes in equipment configurations.
• Coordinate disposition or transfer of capital equipment that is no longer in service.
• Maintain the knowledge and skills required to work safely in the surgical environment.
