About The Position

The Surgical Assistant renders direct patient care by assisting the surgeon in the surgical treatment of the patient. This work is performed under the direct supervision of the attending surgeon and in accordance with the goals of the Department of Surgery, the philosophy of the Division of Nursing, and Medical Staff policy. The position involves interpretive skills and frequent interactive and consultative associations. The ability to retrieve, communicate, or otherwise present information in written, auditory, or visual form is essential. Spoken communication is the primary method of expressing or exchanging ideas; written, telephone, and manual dexterity skills are also required. Requirements

Meet the education requirements necessary to obtain licensure as a Surgical Assistant by the Virginia Department of Health.
Hold a license as a Surgical Assistant from the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
Have written, telephone, and manual dexterity skills.

Nice To Haves

Graduation from an accredited First Assistants program.
Three years of operating room experience.
Certification in Surgical Assisting.
