Surgical Technologist - Labor and Delivery

About The Position

The Surgical Technologist provides technical services and assists professional nursing staff and physicians in delivering patient care across surgical procedures. The role works closely with the perioperative team to support total patient care and maintain a safe, efficient, organized operating room that meets quality and safety standards. This position is in the Labor and Delivery department at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital and is scheduled for 36 hours per week on a midnight shift from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements

Obtain American Heart Association Certified BLS Provider credential in Basic Life Support within six months of hire or job transfer.
Complete a recognized scrub technician college program, or have at least two years of experience as a Surgical Technician, or at least one year of experience working as a Certified Surgical Technician.

Nice To Haves

Certified Surgical Assistant credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Responsibilities

Follow established standards, policies, and procedures, including quality assurance, safety, and infection control, and maintain a clean and orderly environment for patients and staff.
Communicate and cooperate with others to achieve departmental objectives while ensuring patient rights and confidentiality.
Set up operating rooms with necessary instruments and supplies according to surgeon preferences and routines, and assist with surgical procedures.
Clean, decontaminate, wrap, and sterilize equipment and instruments; perform preps in nursing units as needed.
Assist with patient transportation and support the scrub or circulating nurse as directed.
Maintain inventory, preserve and label operative specimens, and transport them to the laboratory for analysis.
