Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited Physician’s Assistant Program required.
  • Current Physician’s Assistant Licensure in New York State required.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants required.
  • Supervising Practice Agreement with the Medical Director of the APP and FA or the Trauma Program or their designee within the scope of practice of such supervising physician required.
  • Current BLS &/or ACLS & PALS Certifications required. ACLS can be accepted in lieu of BLS.
  • Current Opioid Prescriber Training Certificate required.
  • Current Infectious Certificate required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program (Adult, Acute Care, Family)
  • Current ANP licensure in New York State
  • Collaborative Practice Agreement with the Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director of the Trauma Program or their designee within the scope of practice
  • Current BLS and/or ACLS & PALS Certifications required. ACLS can be accepted in lieu of BLS.
  • Active and unrestricted DEA Certificate
  • Stands, walks, sits intermittently throughout the day. Lifts, pushes, pulls light to heavy weights as required.
  • Works primarily inside and may occasionally work outdoors.
  • Frequent contact with various Garnet Health staff, sales representatives, employees and community members.
  • May be exposed to odors, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, sharp objects, hazardous or moving equipment, wet slippery floors, and extremes in temperature and humidity.
  • Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks.
  • Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
  • Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs and push over 75 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, twist, balance and reach above, out and below.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks.
  • Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled.

  • May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • ATLS Certification preferred- will be required within 1 year of hire.
  • RNFA certification or successful completion of RNFA program with certification to be obtained within one year of hire
  • Successful completion and maintenance of Board Certification as a practitioner from the ANCC or the AANP within one year of hire

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all aspects of care of the Trauma and Surgery patient including physical exams and treatment of illness.
  • Function in all areas of the pre/ peri and post-operative environment including pre-admission, test review, intra-operative first assisting, PACU care, SICU care, step-down unit and other areas designated.
  • Use a variety of skills to educate, consult and manage the Trauma or Surgery patient population and assist the patient/family, the patient care team and physicians.
  • Work collaboratively with the health care team including Trauma and Surgery physicians, anesthesiologists, other physicians involved in the trauma or surgery patient care, nurses, case management, physical and occupational therapy and with departments affecting the care of the Trauma or Surgery patient.
  • Act as a clinical educator working with staff on Trauma or Surgery competencies, new procedures and advanced practice skills.
  • Work with the Trauma Surgeons to implement necessary medical aspects of care including discharges and pain management.
  • First Assist coverage of obstetric patients undergoing cesarean sections in the Labor & Delivery ORs, weekend and night call and cross-campus coverage.
