About The Position

The Surgery Technician will promote efficient department operation by demonstrating teamwork, efficiency, and initiative. This role involves identifying and solving problems, seeking areas for improvement, contributing new ideas, and supporting team goals. The technician will demonstrate flexibility, maintain open communications, and look for opportunities to assist co-workers. They will prioritize and complete duties within appropriate time frames and accept projects or additional duties willingly. The role also requires maintaining a safe, clean, and well-stocked environment, demonstrating responsibility and accountability for unit equipment and supplies, and ensuring patient care areas are ready for new patients. The Surgery Technician will demonstrate competence in assisting health care team members provide patient care, including setting up equipment for delivery tables, newborn warmers, and special care nursery beds. They will support RN and physician staff in emergency care, anticipate potential situations and needs, and demonstrate understanding of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and equipment. This includes setting up tables, instruments, equipment, and supplies for operative deliveries/procedures, maintaining aseptic technique and a sterile environment, and assisting the surgeon with instrumentation, sutures, sponges, and supplies. The technician will follow procedures for safe medication use on the surgical field, perform correct sponge, needle, and instrument counts, and coordinate and assist with activities for quick, efficient turnover and set up of the operating room. They will restock the operating room after use and ensure all equipment and supplies are ready for use. Professionalism is key, involving maintaining effective relationships with patients, families, visitors, supervisors, and health care team members, answering calls promptly and courteously, utilizing time efficiently, and adhering to appearance and dress standards. The technician will also attend at least 75% of staff meetings per year.

Requirements

  • Completion of Surgical Tech Program
  • AHA BLS certification from 60 days of hire and maintained
  • Flexibility and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent prioritization and follow through skills
  • Ability to function professionally in urgent or emergent situations

Nice To Haves

  • One year previous Obstetrics or Surgical experience
  • Training in aseptic technique and environmental cleaning

  • Restocks operating room after use, and checks the room once each shift to ensure that all equipment and supplies are ready for use.
  • Demonstrates professionalism during all levels of interaction
  • Maintains effective relationships with patients, families, visitors, supervisors and all health care team members.
  • Answers telephone calls, patient call lights and the doorbell promptly and courteously.
  • Takes accurate messages and follows up on requests for assistance in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes time efficiently with unit related activities. Does not make or receive personal telephone calls while on duty except for emergencies.
  • Consistently maintains appearance and dress standards in accordance with policy. Wears name badge at all times.
  • Observes mandatory requirements. Attends at least 75% of staff meetings per year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
