About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN or Certified Surgical Technician, the Surgery Technician/LPN Intern will scrub, gown, and glove, maintaining a sterile environment at all times during setup and procedure. This role involves setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the scheduled operation, assisting with patient preparation and draping, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon regarding instrumentation, sutures, sponges, and supplies. The intern will observe the patient for changes in physical status, assist with emergency procedures, and perform correct sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating RN. Responsibilities also include assisting the circulating RN in the care and labeling of surgical specimens, applying dressings and casts, and cleaning the surgical suite after each case. Additionally, the intern will be responsible for cleaning equipment and restocking LDRP rooms post-vaginal deliveries, demonstrating knowledge of and safe use of medications on the surgical field. This role requires obtaining all necessary supplies and special equipment, maintaining correct patient positioning, and assisting with patient movement from the surgical table. Maintaining hospital and patient confidentiality, adhering to OSHA Safety Policies and Universal Precautions, and responding effectively in emergency surgical situations are critical. The position also requires maintaining effective working relationships, adapting to change rapidly, and demonstrating flexibility in staffing and emergency standby to meet patient needs.

Requirements

Basic understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
BLS within 60 days of hire and maintained.
Meets legal requirement for grandfathered training clause.
Medium to heavy physical demands.
Knowledge of and efficiently operates all equipment used.
Ability to stand within limited area most of the working shift.
Ability to stoop frequently; push/pull up to 1200 pounds frequently, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Possess excellent eye/hand coordination
Work under stress and constant time demands.
Ability to work within a controlled traffic pattern.
Able to provide quality care in an emergency basis to ensure quality patient care.

Responsibilities

Scrubs, gowns, and gloves
