About The Position

The Surgery Scheduler plays a critical role in coordinating and managing surgical appointments within a healthcare facility or local outpatients settings. This position requires meticulous attention to detail to schedule surgeries accurately while considering surgeon availability, patient needs, and resource allocation. The Surgery Scheduler acts as a liaison between patients, surgeons, and nursing staff to facilitate clear communication and timely preparation for surgical procedures. By effectively managing the surgical schedule, this role helps minimize delays and cancellations, contributing to improved patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Ultimately, the Surgery Scheduler supports the healthcare team by maintaining an organized, responsive, and patient-centered scheduling process.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in medical scheduling, preferably within a surgical or hospital environment.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and surgical procedures.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and scheduling software.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Associate degree or higher in healthcare administration or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures by collaborating with surgeons, patients, and clinical staff to confirm availability and requirements.
  • Maintain and update the surgical schedule daily, ensuring accuracy and timely communication of any changes to all relevant parties.
  • Verify patient information, insurance coverage, and pre-operative requirements to ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to provide pre-surgery instructions, answer scheduling questions, and address any concerns.
  • Work closely with outpatient facilities and staff to optimize room utilization and assist in resolving scheduling conflicts or emergencies.
  • Document all scheduling activities and maintain records in compliance with healthcare regulations and confidentiality standards.
