About The Position

Sante Health System is looking for a Surgery Scheduler to join our team at Central Valley Colon and Rectal Surgical Associates (CVRSA) in Fresno, CA. This position is responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgery appointments for patients in an efficient and timely manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED equivalent required
  • Minimum of two years medical office experience.
  • Preferably at least one year procedure scheduling experience in a medical specialty practice.
  • Knowledge of medical insurances, medical terminology and computer experience.
  • Candidates should have exceptional people and communication skills, be highly skilled in multi-tasking in a fast paced environment, a commitment to achieving a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, and a no-task-too-small approach to the work.
  • Knowledge of medical office procedures including surgery procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of interrelationship of surgery department with laboratory and radiology.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type patient information.
  • Skill in operating a computer, photocopy machine, fax, and other office equipment.
  • Skill in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, coworkers, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Book, coordinate and reschedule patients' surgical appointments.
  • Relay necessary messages to staff.
  • Greet patients in a prompt, pleasant and helpful manner.
  • Verify necessary information including insurance coverage.
  • Maintain and update current information on physician's surgery schedules.
  • Function as office liaison to hospitals on behalf of the patients, including coordination of admitting arrangements and any hospital tests or equipment needed.
  • Review prep instructions with patient for their scheduled surgery
  • Request authorization for surgeries
  • Confirm surgery date/time with patient and facility
  • Answer telephones, screen calls, take messages and provide information.
  • Answer questions regarding patient surgical appointments and testing.
  • Communicate questions or concerns for prompt resolution.
  • Update patient chart with any applicable information as necessary.
  • Assist other office personnel in the performance of their duties as assigned and as workload permits.
  • Function as relief for other personnel in office as appropriate and to facilitate coworker's taking time out of the office.
  • Work in a cooperative and professional manner with physician and coworkers.
  • Attend required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through in-service meetings and education programs.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
