About The Position

Veterinary Specialty Hospital North County is seeking a Surgery Liaison to join our specialty Surgery team. This role is ideal for an experienced veterinary professional who enjoys working directly with clients, coordinating surgical care, and helping ensure patients and their families have a smooth experience from consultation through follow-up. As a Surgery Liaison, you'll work closely with our Surgeons, surgical interns, Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, clients, and referring veterinary partners to coordinate communication and support the daily flow of the Surgery service.

Requirements

  • One to two years of progressive veterinary experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent client communication and education skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective time management and ability to prioritize in a busy specialty hospital.
  • Initiative, reliability, and consistent follow-through.
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
  • Confidence working with animals and assisting with patient restraint.
  • Ability to develop positive, long-term relationships with clients, colleagues, and the veterinary community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional client communication and education during new consultations, recheck appointments, and phone conversations.
  • Collect patient medical histories and work with the Surgeon during consultations and rechecks.
  • Assist Surgeons and surgical interns with patient restraint during examinations, bandage changes, suture removals, and incision checks.
  • Understand and present patient treatment plans to clients.
  • Manage the Surgery appointment schedule and help ensure scheduling accuracy.
  • Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures and ancillary services needed for Surgery patients.
  • Facilitate timely communication with referring veterinarians, including surgery reports, referral letters, histopathology results, and other patient updates.
  • Complete follow-up calls after appointments and help ensure clients understand next steps in their pet's care.
  • Maintain accurate and organized patient information and documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with the Surgery and hospital teams to keep patient care and client communication moving efficiently.
