About The Position

The Surface Technician prepares parts and articles for painting, performs surface repair and finishing work, and moves painted articles to and from the paint booth. The role also involves masking areas that should not be painted, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and completing other tasks as assigned or approved by the supervisor. The position is located in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Salary is undisclosed.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of hands-on experience in paint and body repair.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Self-starter with proficiency in budgeting time.
• Must possess basic hand tools for the position and upgrade tools as required to complete assigned tasks.

Nice To Haves

• Certificate from an accredited technical or industrial trade school.

Responsibilities

• Perform preparation work before or after painting, including grinding, sanding, and buffing.
• Mask areas that are not to be painted on parts that will remain unpainted in those areas.
• Fill cavities and dents as necessary and prepare repaired surfaces to attain the required finish.
• Clean and prepare surfaces using solvent, sandpaper, and wire brush.
• Move painted articles to and from the paint booth.
• Finish surfaces by polishing with sandpaper, pumice, compound, wax, or other materials.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Perform other tasks as assigned or approved by the supervisor.
