About The Position

The primary responsibilities of this role will be to recruit, develop, supervise and mentor system software engineering personnel, as well as, support direct project tasks as necessary related to the System Software Engineering role and enforce Sunbelt software standards. In this position you will be required to ensure safe working conditions and habits for all departmental employees in the office and on the jobsite. The individual shall take ownership of the production of, software engineering, programming, database creation and graphic implementation. The position is also responsible for maintaining and updating standard database libraries. Must possess comprehensive knowledge of the building automation programming, databases and graphic structure as well as the quality assurance of the products delivered. Additionally, the individual is required to closely support and interact with Operations Management, Technical Services Management, and the Project Managers in order to better design processes, and increase department efficiencies. Strong leadership and organizational skills are necessities to drive process and design advancements. Additional main responsibilities of this role, shall include software engineering group resource planning & assignments, resource leveling and labor cost control. Finally, the System Software Supervisor will assist in regular skills assessment of the software engineering staff and help plan professional growth with the engineering team. Travel and job site visits will be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering and/or 8+ years of direct related work experience in a software engineering role within the building automation industry.
  • Ability to operate independently and autonomously and yet possess the discretionary judgment to know when it is appropriate to consult with others in the organization and/or escalate to the Operations/Technical Services Manager and/or Sales Manager.
  • Demonstrates a high sense of integrity and work ethic.
  • Demonstrated experience/ability to convey advanced concepts in a manner that is understandable to basic/junior stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management abilities, employing strong organizational skills to respond successfully to a high volume of issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate and coach on basic and/or “stretch” tasks to less experienced staff and assign resource correctly to diagnose/address issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute the work that is typically assigned to a Systems Software Engineer level III.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees QA/QC of software solutions developed and field execution through the project life cycle.
  • Works in conjunction with and supports the Operations Manager or Technical Services Manager in all aspects of software development and applications programming and field commissioning and functional testing.
  • Assists Operations Manager, Project Managers and Field Supervisors with the allocation of software development resources for scheduling and resource loading as needed for projects and cost control.
  • Oversees workload and resource capacity allocation of engineers and outsourcing to third-party resources when necessary.
  • Ensure that Sunbelt programming and databases standards are updated regularly to adhere to ever-changing industry standards.
  • Manages all aspects of adhering to corporate controls software standards including end devices standards, safety initiative standards and application standards.
  • Review all third-party software designs, QA/QC prior to submission to both internal and external customers.
  • Development of methods and processes to increase personnel efficiency and effectiveness while striving to reduce costs for programming and graphics development.
  • Maintains viable relationships with external clients, project managers, office staff and field personnel. Schedules and attends meetings as needed.
  • Provides pre-sales technical project development support to the Project Managers in applications and cost estimating input as necessary.
  • Supports the recruitment and retention of software engineering personnel. Building relationships with industry recruiters and attending career fairs are a requirements of this role.
  • Continuously pursues personal development in new technologies and solutions to enable the role to be the subject matter expert for the Sunbelt organization.
  • Supports direct manager, all department and executive management as necessary in additional responsibilities as required.
  • Communicates effectively with all project team members concerning challenges, obstacles, issues and information needs from the field and office.
  • Supports direct manager in all aspects of annual strategic planning and goal development for their respective department and individuals therein.
  • Provides execution and full accountability for labor loading, cost control and increased labor efficiencies across all team members for their respective department.
  • Responsible for the team’s individual skill assessments, annual development planning and execution in addition to quarterly review of both
  • Responsible for developing and executing annual staffing plans and keeping the proper resource levels and allocations in place at all times.
  • Regularly collaborates regionally and corporately as necessary to ensure full allocation of labor within the respective team.
  • May visit project and/or customer sites for building and systems surveying including attending project team meetings as required.
  • Responsible for practicing safe work habits and participation in office safety program requirements, as well as, site specific safety requirements for all assigned projects.
  • Supports the direct manager, all department and executive management as necessary in additional responsibilities as required.
  • Supports the recruitment and retention of software engineering personnel. Building relationships with industry recruiters and attending career fairs are requirements of this role.
  • Develops, trains and coaches Design Engineers on engineering concepts, applications, theories and standards.
  • Manages the software team workload and work with the system software engineers to ensure they are able to meet their committed project schedules.
