About The Position

Responsible for creating a positive work environment and efficient processes so caregivers can accurately order, receive, process, and distribute laboratory specimens in a timely fashion. Provide direct supervision of first-line caregivers.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates knowledge and maintains and respects patient right to privacy by following the HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures.

  • Adheres to policies and procedures designed to avoid, prevent and reduce the spread of communicable diseases.
  • Three years’ experience in a clinical laboratory, production process, or business.
  • Knowledge of process development and improvement.
  • Demonstrate resource development skills.
  • Systems analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem identification and resolution.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in a manner that is consistent with the ICARE values and that creates a culture in which caregivers feel engaged and are encouraged to succeed and develop.
  • Ensures that all specimens are ordered, received, processed, and distributed to the appropriate laboratory section in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and ensures the accuracy and quality of caregiver’s work.
  • Ensures proper staffing levels, workflow, and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Conducts competency assessments and performance appraisals and maintains appropriate documentation.
  • Oversees policy and procedure development within Central Processing and ensures compliance.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to improve procedures, processes, speed, quality and effectiveness.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of errors and incorporate findings into policies and/or training programs, as appropriate.
  • Work cooperatively with the Laboratory – Training Supervisor to create orientation, remedial training, and continuing education for Caregivers.
  • Delegates clear responsibility, accountability and authority to meet mutually agreed upon expectations to first line caregivers.
  • Create an engaged workforce by hiring, scheduling, counseling, teaching, training, coaching, developing & recognizing Caregivers. When necessary, provide fair & consistent constructive criticism and/or discipline and provide input to the manager concerning the termination of first line caregivers.
  • Provide caregivers with regular feedback regarding their performance and complete annual evaluations.
  • Proactively monitor the fiscal performance of Central Processing and make necessary changes to meet budgetary and productivity goals.
  • Identify needed quality improvement initiatives and participate in the laboratory’s quality improvement program.
  • Determines the development needs and training opportunities of first line caregivers and fosters growth opportunities.
  • Monitors daily quality, customer satisfaction and service utilization and initiates short term corrective actions as needed.
  • Participates in the development of section budgets.
  • Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health System’s Customer Service Behavioral Standards of Performance, by respecting the Privacy and Confidentiality of those we serve.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, service provider, organizational confidentiality and HIPAA Security procedures and protocols as defined under the HIPAA Privacy and Security Procedures.
  • Follows established HIPAA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information.
  • Maintains and protects patients’ rights under the HIPAA Privacy Standards.
