About The Position

The Central Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of instruments, procedure trays, and equipment. This role ensures that all items are processed according to departmental policies and hospital procedures, maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The technician will also be responsible for performing and documenting required testing, reporting any issues, and managing the storage and dispensing of sterile supplies. A key part of the role involves the proper handling, cleaning, high-level disinfection, and storage of endoscopes using specialized equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma Required
  • CRCST
  • 1 year experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Disassembles and decontaminates all instruments, procedure trays, and equipment returned from the nursing units following departmental policies.
  • Assembles all instruments and procedure trays following and completing appropriate count sheets.
  • Processes all items appropriately using either sterrad or steam sterilization & properly loads, operates and cleans all sterilizers & documents load contents per hospital policies.
  • Completes required biological, chemical and Bowie Dick testing and documents results accordingly.
  • Reports any discrepancies in testing & potential equipment and/or instrument problems to Central Management immediately.
  • Maintains assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition & prepares case cart request generated by the Operating Room.
  • Properly stores all sterile supplies housed in the department & properly dispenses equipment and supplies requested by the nursing units.
  • Demonstrates proper use of PPE Personal Protective Equipment and Standard Precautions, proper record keeping, performance testing, cleaning and disinfecting, drying, transportation and storage of all endoscopes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proper use of AER (Automatic Endoscope Reprocessor) Unit.
  • Utilizes endoscope cleaning, testing, and storage equipment properly according to established policies and procedures.
  • Terminally cleans and high level disinfects "used" or "dirty" endoscopes according to established policies and procedures.
