About The Position

The John Howard Society of Ottawa is seeking a Supportive Employment and Training Facilitator to join their Trade Able and Arches Supportive Employment Services program. This role involves working with individuals facing barriers such as mental health challenges, substance use, or justice involvement to help them find and maintain meaningful employment and apprenticeships. The program offers tailored support including career exploration, mentorship, goal setting, training access, job search assistance, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, employer advocacy, on-the-job support, and assistance with career advancement. Requirements

  • University degree/College diploma in Education or Social Sciences
  • Experience working with marginalized clients who face many barriers to employment
  • Experience managing a large caseload while balancing competing priorities
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating engaging workshops, presentations, and group discussions
  • Experience developing relationships with employers, unions, community organizations, or industry partners
  • Strong computer proficiency (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, virtual meeting platforms, and database/case management systems)
  • Strong Attention to detail with experience maintaining accurate electronic documentation, case notes, and reports
  • Identify individual needs and connect clients with appropriate services and supports
  • Demonstrate strong initiative and the ability to work independently in fast paced environment
  • Have excellent verbal and and written communication skills, including confidence presenting to groups and building professional relationships
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently follow established procedures
  • Have strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality documentation
  • Have knowledge of social, environmental, employment, apprenticeship, and cultural issues affecting individuals
  • Have a passion for building partnerships and helping individuals overcome barriers to achieve meaningful employment

  • Experience in employment Services, workforce development, skilled trades, apprenticeship, recruitment or business development is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Provide a range of direct individualized services to clients, including intake, needs assessments, mental health support, job search and on-the-job support
  • Assist clients with career exploration, resume preparation, job search strategies, interview skills, coaching and mentoring
  • Connect with prospective employers, unions, apprenticeship sponsors, and training providers to develop employment, apprenticeship, and training opportunities for clients
  • Connect with existing and prospective community partners to facilitate pre-employment training and other employment-related supports
  • Confidently facilitate engaging workshops, information sessions, and group presentations for clients and community partners
  • Organize and facilitate information sessions, networking opportunities, and employer engagement events
  • Explore new resources and opportunities in response to emerging client and labour market needs
  • Maintain current knowledge of community resources, labour market trends, and apprenticeship pathways to support informed career planning and referrals
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and detailed electronic client records, case notes, data entry, customized resumes and cover letters, and program reports in accordance with department procedures and reporting requirements
