About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Supportive Employment and Training (SET) Facilitator is to provide a wide range of direct individualized services to clients in our educational programs including intake and assessment, literacy and numeracy training, and computer literacy training. Additional responsibilities would be to explore new resources in response to emerging client needs and to facilitate client-centered workshops. This position primarily works at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre and at our outreach sites and is under the direct supervision of the Manager of Employment and Training Services.

Requirements

  • University degree/College diploma in Education or Social Sciences with teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer proficiency (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and database management).
  • Experience working with marginalized clients who face many barriers including mental health, justice involvement, substance use and history or trauma.
  • Experience in social services.
  • Be able to work in a provincial adult correctional facility (OCDC).
  • Be able to identify individual needs and support clients with appropriate services.
  • Be innovative and enthusiastic with a passion for assisting others.
  • Be knowledgeable of social, environmental, employment, and cultural issues affecting individuals.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an English as a Second Language setting would be an asset.
