The Part-Time Support Worker provides direct support to people with intellectual disabilities in a manner that promotes independence, choice, community participation, and personal growth. Working as part of a collaborative team, the Support Worker contributes to the development and implementation of support strategies, assists individuals in achieving their goals, and helps maintain a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • Completion of a one (1) year post-secondary diploma or degree in a human services field.
  • Minimum six (6) months of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or in a related human services field.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence and driver's abstract.
  • Reliable access to a vehicle.
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check, proof of a valid driver's license, and proof of automobile insurance will be required as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant volunteer experience and student placements may be considered.
  • Medication administration and pharmacology training.
  • Safe Management, Crisis Intervention, or related behavioural support training.
  • Experience with person-centred planning.
  • Computer proficiency and experience with electronic documentation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support that reflects each individual's goals, preferences, choices, and support needs as identified in their personal support plans.
  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living, personal care, and skill development as required.
  • Promote independence, self-determination, dignity, and community inclusion.
  • Support individuals in developing and maintaining meaningful relationships and natural supports.
  • Assist people supported with household management activities, including meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning, and other daily household responsibilities, while promoting independence and skill development wherever possible.
  • Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of individuals supported.
  • Administer and monitor medications in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.
  • Recognize and report health, behavioural, environmental, or safety concerns.
  • Follow all infection prevention, health and safety, and emergency response procedures.
  • Facilitate community involvement and participation in meaningful activities.
  • Support people in accessing employment, recreation, education, volunteer opportunities, and community resources.
  • Encourage the development of friendships and community connections.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of support plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including daily notes and required records.
  • Review communication logs and share relevant information with team members.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with families, community professionals, and external service providers.
  • Adhere to all Agency policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all applicable legislation.
  • Demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and respect in all workplace interactions.
  • Model and continuously develop competencies expected of a Direct Support Professional.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Supports a positive team environment through collaboration, communication, and shared problem-solving.
  • Contributes to a culture of inclusion, respect, accountability, and continuous learning.
