About The Position

Koinonia Homes for Teens is seeking a qualified and compassionate individual to join our team as a temporary part-time Mental Health Support Worker (MHSW) in our adolescent residential therapeutic program located in Orangevale. The MHSW position supervises the youth's day-to-day activity in Koinonia's Homes for Teens residential program. The program serves youth 12 to 18 years of age who have had early childhood trauma with mental health and/or substance abuse issues that require residential treatment. With the assistance of coworkers, the MHSW position provides direct supervision for up to six youth as they complete their daily program activities.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Experience working with youth (including but not limited to coaching, tutoring, mentoring, daycare, volunteering or working in a school), OR a bachelor's degree, OR teaching certificate, OR Alcohol and Other Drug certification
  • Good boundaries

  • A reliable means of transportation
  • A schedule that is flexible to meet work requirements

  • Reliable transportation as driving is an essential job function
  • Able to safely and reliably transport youth to medical appointments, therapy sessions, educational activities, and other essential services
  • Prepared to respond to crisis situations by providing immediate transportation to ensure the safety and security of the youth
  • Complete a criminal background clearance through the California Department of Justice and FBI
  • Complete a pre-employment physical and TB test

Responsibilities

  • Supervise youth on outings, recreational activities and other vacation destinations
  • Supervision of youth
  • Transportation of youth
  • Role modeling appropriate and positive adult behavior
  • Participating with social workers and youth in periodic group and individual therapy sessions
  • Performing routine household and grounds maintenance on occasion
  • Performing food services for youth on occasion
  • Preparing paperwork and reports
