About The Position

This role focuses on managing purchasing execution while establishing and developing a more structured supply planning function. The Team Lead will supervise and develop Buyers, establishing clear priorities and accountability. Key responsibilities include developing material planning processes to align purchasing with production requirements and anticipated demand, establishing visibility into material requirements, lead times, open orders, and upcoming shortages, and introducing more consistent use of ERP/MRP tools. The role also involves developing planning parameters, coordinating material requirements with various departments, establishing shortage tracking and escalation processes, and working with the Inventory Manager to improve inventory accuracy and availability. The Team Lead will monitor supplier performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide regular reporting on material availability, shortages, inventory, and supplier risks. Significant supplier, capacity, and cost issues will be escalated to the Senior Director. This position involves formal management of Buyers/Planners, with responsibility for developing planning capabilities within the team. Inventory management initially remains a separate reporting line, with the structure to be reviewed later.

Responsibilities

• Manage purchasing execution

• Develop planning parameters, including lead times, reorder points, safety stock, and minimum order quantities
• Coordinate material requirements with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Operations
• Establish shortage tracking and escalation processes to minimize production disruptions
• Work with the Inventory Manager to improve inventory accuracy, material availability, and excess inventory management
• Monitor supplier delivery performance and follow up on commitments
• Identify opportunities to improve purchasing, planning, and material flow
• Provide regular reporting on material availability, shortages, inventory, and supplier risks
• Escalate significant supplier, capacity, and cost issues to the Senior Director
• Develop planning capabilities within the existing team
