About The Position

PDI’s Supply Chain Internship Program offers operational leadership and development opportunities by providing first-hand insight into each cross-functional team within our supply chain network. As a Supply Chain Intern, you will work side-by-side with team members and leadership from each of our branch operations teams. During this time, you will assist with the intake and shipment of material using our Warehouse Management System, lead the shipping and receiving departments, and manage inventory using data from our ERP system. Our internship program offers operational leadership experience by providing one-on-one time with our Branch Managers. During this time, you will work with managers to monitor the productivity of our operations teams, manage communications with our sales teams to ensure branches are providing the appropriate operational support, review inventory reports, resolve inventory discrepancies, and review daily sales reports. Our internship teaches participants how to interpret data through a series of rotations with our Purchasing and E-Commerce teams. During your time with the Purchasing team, you will understand the strategies used to move material between branches, understand how to monitor reordering points for specific products and understand how to interpret the movement of materials. In E-commerce, you will be able to identify the concepts and principles used to manage online content, update product information, and produce online sales. Those that participate in our program will leave with an understanding of the functions that are vital to the flow of a successful supply chain, and the methods used to lead branch operations. As you go through the program you will be tasked with a project that promotes continuous improvement. Upon completion of the program, your project will be presented to our senior-level managers.

Requirements

  • Currently working on completing a bachelor’s degree.
  • Must have a strong interest in pursuing a career in branch operations ( all majors welcome ).
  • Effective Leadership skills
  • Effective Interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in basic computing (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to stand for 8-10 hours.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to travel to multiple locations in the Southeast.

Responsibilities

  • Interns will work in all areas of branch operations.
  • Become familiar with the layout of our warehouses.
  • During the shipping rotation, you will pull orders using our WMS.
  • Prepare items for shipment.
  • Assist the Shipping Supervisor with daily operations.
  • Communicate inventory discrepancies through the appropriate channels.
  • Assist in creating routes for drivers.
  • Prioritize orders based on the requested delivery date.
  • Communicate shipment status to sales personnel upon request.
  • Verify quantities, unload, and store incoming material.
  • Assist the Receiving Supervisor with daily operations.
  • Review purchase orders
  • Review packing slips
  • Communicating purchase order discrepancies to the Purchasing team.
  • Scheduling the drop-off material.
  • Ensuring material is put away promptly.
  • Assist our transfers department in distributing materials to branches.
  • Interns will work on a project that promotes continuous improvement throughout the program.
  • Upon completion of the program, the project will be presented to our senior-level managers.
  • Shadow management on a branch level to learn the ins and outs of day-to-day operations.
  • Assist our purchasing team in procuring material, creating transfer orders, and monitoring the movement of material.
  • Assist our E-Commerce team to manage online content, update product information, and produce online sales.
  • Other duties as assigned.
